This CD features a stunning performance of the little known Jenner Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (student and biographer of Brahms) an original work by the young Alex Yau and a reworking of the much loved Ross Edwards Binyang and Interior.
Gustav Uwe Jenner studied with Brahms for seven years until Brahms’ death in 1897. Composed for the same man that inspired Brahms out of retirement, Richard Mühlfeld, It is no surprise that Jenner’s harmonic language reflects much of Brahms’ style but his beautifully crafted harmonies and melodies soar with originality and speak for the following generation of music makers - composers such as Richard Strauss, Puccini and Rachmaninoff.
